It’s #TeaserTuesday and I have a treat for you – another excerpt from the first book from the Cougarette spinoff series, Savage.

Okay, this is a BIG treat for #TeaserTuesday but I felt it was fair to hip you to the moment Laney and the successful management consultant Alex Esteban meet.  Enjoy!

CeeCee’s phone buzzed and her assistant’s voice chimed through. “Mrs. Banks-Weston, your nine o’clock is here.”

CeeCee pressed the speaker button. “Thank you, Rhonda. Please send him in.”

Laney straightened her back, surprised. “One, I thought I was your nine o’clock.  And two, do we seriously have to call you by both names?”

“You don’t, but she does,” CeeCee said with a grin. “And you are my nine, but I have someone I want you to meet.  He’s a little late, but if he can do what he says he can, I’m okay with a little tardiness.”

The door opened behind Laney, which made her turn to meet the eyes of someone familiar.  She shot up from her seat.

“You!” she said, fire lacing her voice.

The man from Java Java, now blazer-free, stopped dead in his tracks. “You!”

CeeCee stood from her desk. “Do you two know each other?”

Laney’s head spun back to CeeCee. “This is the guy that went ballistic on me because I accidentally spilled your latte on him.”

The man walked within inches of Laney.  “‘Guy’?  No, I think the word you yelled at me in a public space was ‘asshole’.”

“Laney, please tell me he’s lying,” CeeCee sighed.

“Well, he was an asshole,” Laney said, folding her arms.  She looked him up and down. “And I see your blazer is no more. What happened to it? Did you throw it out?”

“No, I dropped it off at the dry cleaner next to Java Java.  You owe me eight bucks.”

Laney’s jaw dropped. “Are you fucking kidding me? Over one little splash of coffee? Give me a break!”

The man shook his head in disbelief. “You are, by far, the rudest person I’ve ever met in my life – and I’m from The Bronx!”

“Well, they sure make ‘em soft in the Boogie Down,” Laney said with a chuckle. “Did you drop off your tiara along with your pretty little suit jacket, princess?”

CeeCee wedged between them. “Okay, enough,” she said as she turned to the man. “Alex, please have a seat here while I speak with Laney in private.”

Laney gave Alex a parting glare as he sat his tense body in the chair across from CeeCee’s desk. She felt CeeCee grab her hand, making her stumble in her heels as they left the office. CeeCee closed the door behind them and took a deep breath.

“Laney, what was that?”

“That,” Laney started with a finger toward the closed door, “is an asshole!”

“Yeah, I got that part, but that’s not how we talk to our business partners.”

Laney blinked. “He’s a partner? Since when?”

“Since today. His name’s Alex Esteban. He owns a management consulting firm here in Manhattan.  I met him during my honeymoon – he worked with Jay on a restructure at Graphix and—”

“Wait, so is that your big plan? A restructure?” Laney felt herself getting angry again.

CeeCee put up her palms. “I don’t know what our plan is right now. That’s why Alex is here.  He’ll review our current structure and give us some options, so I need you to get it together and remain professional.”

Laney exhaled, trying her best to maintain a hint of composure. She bit the inside of her cheek. “Fine. I’ll keep it cute but I don’t trust him. And he is an asshole!”
